It holds immense historical and spiritual significance as it is believed to be the place where Lord Buddha delivered his first sermon after attaining enlightenment. This event, known as the “Dharmachakra Pravartan,” marked the beginning of Buddha’s teaching of the Dharma (the path to enlightenment) to his five disciples.

Sarnath’s importance lies not only in its association with Buddha’s teachings but also in its rich archaeological heritage. The site boasts several ancient stupas, monasteries, and other structures that reflect the vibrant Buddhist culture that once thrived here. The Dhamek Stupa, an imposing cylindrical tower, is a focal point of Sarnath and is believed to mark the spot where Buddha gave his first sermon.
